Game 1

The Okotoks Dawgs battled until the final out in the first game of their doubleheader on Friday but ultimately fell 6-5 to the Lethbridge Bulls.

This game represented the completion of a contest that had been postponed on June 16.

On the mound, Brody Papay provided a strong start, hurling four scoreless innings to open the game on Tuesday. He allowed just two hits and recorded four strikeouts, keeping the Bulls’ offence in check.

Offensively, Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) was a key contributor, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Nash Crowell (Yarmouth, N.S.) homered in the sixth inning, finishing 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Game 2

After a hard-fought first matchup, the Dawgs lost 11-1 to the Bulls in the second game of their Friday night doubleheader at Spitz Stadium.

After an early deficit, the Dawgs’ bullpen stepped up to provide stability and keep the game within reach. Bracken Rice delivered an impressive relief appearance, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out four.

Ty Johnson and Trey Mackwood (Calgary, Alta.) also contributed valuable innings, combining for four strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings to keep the Bulls’ offence in check.

The Dawgs scored their sole run in the fifth inning when Hank Griffin (Montreal, Que.) delivered an RBI single to bring Aidan Dougherty home.

The Dawgs will look to regroup and put together a strong performance in front of their home crowd on Saturday night when they host the Moose Jaw Miller Express at 7:05 p.m.
