The Okotoks Dawgs pulled away late to defeat the Regina Red Sox 9–3 on Thursday night.
After trailing 3–2 heading into the bottom of the eighth, the Dawgs exploded for seven runs in the frame to break the game open.
Offensively, Ricardo Sanchez (Pittsburg State University) delivered the biggest blow with a grand slam as part of the Dawgs’ huge eighth inning.
Zane Skansi (Campbellsville University) also had a strong night at the plate, launching a two-run homer and finishing with two hits and two RBIs. Aidan Rose (Calgary, Alta.) contributed with two hits and an RBI, while Brandon Paez (Montreal, Que.) and Logan Grant (Calgary, Alta.) each added a hit.
On the mound, Gavin Wuschke (Regina, Sask.) started and allowed three runs on five hits, while striking out eight, in seven innings. Chase Tucker (Mount Pearl, Nfld.) closed the door, tossing the final 1 1/3 innings without allowing a hit or a run.
The Dawgs will play the Red Sox again at Seaman Stadium on Friday.
