Okotoks, Alta. – A late-game rally lifted the Okotoks Dawgs to a 7-4 win over the reigning WCBL champion Medicine Hat Mavericks on Tuesday night at Seaman Stadium.

The victory represented the fourth time this season the Dawgs have come back when they were trailing heading into final three innings.

The Mavericks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and then added another run in seventh inning to make it 4-0 before the Dawgs rallied for seven runs in their final two at bats.

The Dawgs got on the board with two outs in the seventh when Southeastern Community College catcher Gavin Logan scored on a single by Dawgs Academy alum Gavin Logan.

Later that inning, Oregon State commit Jacob Melton belted a three-run home run over the left-field fence to tie the ball game.

The Dawgs added three more runs in the eighth inning, two of them courtesy of a bases loaded single from UBC infielder Jaxon Valcke.

Lewis-Clark State hurler Tanner Simpson turned in a quality start for the Dawgs, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out five batters, in six innings.

Mesa Junior College closer Dustin Schorie entered the game in the top of the eighth for the Dawgs, and got out of a bases-loaded jam, before pitching a scoreless ninth to pick up his sixth save of the season.

The series continues on Wednesday at Seaman Stadium with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
