Robert Omidi did not exactly light up the Alabama skies when he was at the East Coast Pro Showcase in Hoover, Ala.

Same for the Area Code Games in Long Beach, Calif. and he was injured during the Canadian Futures Showcase.

Yet, Omidi (Mississauga, Ont.) was in a swinging state of mind in Florida in an exhibition game before Canada Premier and 120 other teams began the annual Perfect Game World Wood Bat championships tournament at Jupiter, Fla.

With two out in the top of the first, the FieldHouse Pirates infielder turned around an 89 MPH fastball for a solo home run against the Royals Scout Team. Canada Premier scored twice in its final at-bats for a 5-4 win for head coach Jamie Romak’s team.

Christian Iriotakis (Toronto, Ont.) and RF Maxime Blain (Repentigny, Que.) each walked and two outs later Evan York walked loading the bases. Then, CF Xavier-Raphaël Brault (Repentigny, Que.) singled to right to bring home the tying run and difference maker. For Brault it was his second hit of the day.

FieldHouse Pirates William Henderson (Mississauga, Ont.) contributed a doubl.

William Henderson (Mississauga, Ont.) doubled, while SS Elliot Lascelles (Toronto, Ont.), 2B Matthew Kolodziej (Oakville, Ont.) and Blain added singles. Besides Brault’s two RBIs, Samuel Ellis (Wakefield, Que.) and Lascelles knocked in runs.

RHP Nicholas Szabo (Whitby, Ont.) picked up the win, working two innings allowing one run on three hits and one walk. He struck out a pair and hit 88 MPH in his 39-pitch outing.

RHP Caleb Dupuis (Georgetown, Ont.), RHP Zach Duke (Burlington, Ont.) and RHP Will Steinman (Toronto, Ont.) all had scoreless one-inning outings.

RHP Gavin Campbell (Belle River, Ont.) started and allowed three runs on three hits and three walks. He struck out three in two innings hitting 89 MPH.

A total of 56 Canadians with 10 different teams are competing.
