Sean Duncan is the top Canadian heading into the 2026 draft of high schoolers and collegians.
Duncan has been on the radar for three seasons, but now it is his time ... we’re inside 11 months of his draft. Rated 26th overall by the highly-respected Baseball America, Duncan made his debut in front of scouts who are looking in “the now.”
LHP Duncan (Port Coquitlam, BC) was one of three Canadians evaluated at the Area Code Games in Long Beach, Calif. Duncan is listed 105th by Perfect Game Scouting Service, after earlier having him as high as 35.
The top 240-plus high schoolers from across the country in the class of 2026 and 2027 gathered at historic Blair Field with eight regional teams playing in a six-day showcase in front of scouts from all 30 major-league teams.
The East Coast Pro Showcase — staged in Hoover, Ala. — was the beginning of a year-long process culminating with the draft in July. The Area Codes is larger and is second on the calendar.
Pitching for the Reds, Duncan started the first game and tossed two innings, allowing one run in a 2-1 win over the Royals. The Langley Blaze lefty, who attends Terry Fox Secondary School, allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out one. He threw 37 pitches, 23 of them were strikes (62%).
Duncan’s fastball was clocked at 91-93 MPH and showed well, according to one scout who added “his changeup was and is his best pitch.” He has committed to the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Performing on the big stage is nothing knew to Duncan as he has pitched: at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, faced pro hitters with the Junior National Team and the Brewers/Langley Blaze on trips to the Dominican, Florida and Arizona, plus he will be making his fourth trip to the Canadian Futures Showcase next month at the Rogers Centre.
Then, he’s off to Under Armour All-American Showcase at Camden Yards on Sept. 13 in Baltimore before heading to Toronto and Jupiter in October. Toronto Mets INF Elliot Lascelles (Toronto, Ont.), also of the Junior National Team, was invited west but declined. He has a scholarship at Yale University.
LF Easton Kitura batting clean-up was hitless in three at-bats.
Baseball America’s scouting report on Duncan:
There’s a lot to like with Duncan, who has a projectable build and a loose, free-and-easy delivery. His feel for pitching is advanced for his age, working off a fastball that is up to 94 mph and should reach another gear in the next few years. Duncan is able to change speeds well, particularly with a lively change up that he sells well with his arm speed and has a lot of fade to get empty swings. He also has a slider that he shows feel to spin and a curve ball he can drop in for early-count strikes.
