Each year at the T-12 or the Canadian Futures Showcase we try to highlight a few players by asking them the same questions.

We know we’re a tad late after being under the weather, but late is better than not at all.

Out first installment ...

What made you choose baseball to focus on over all the other sports you might have played?

“I chose baseball because it was the sport I excelled the most at and had the most fun playing.”

If you were reading a scouting report on yourself, what’s the one thing you would most want it to say?

“I would want it to say that I am personable, mature, and poised, with a strong work ethic. As a pitcher, I attack hitters with confidence and embrace challenges without hesitation.”

If you had to say baseball was a certain percentage physical/talent and a certain percentage mental, what would your percentages (out of 100%) be?

“I believe the game is 100% physical and 100% mental. You need both to compete at an elite level. Talent and physical skill give you the tools, but the mental side determines how consistently you can execute and compete under pressure.

Who was your favourite teammate over the years, and why?

“Reid Clague. I played with Reid for two years on the Langley Blaze and on Team Canada. We quickly became great friends and always pushed each other to be better. He’s also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”

Your favourite park to play in, and why ... beside Rogers Centre?

“Macleod Athletic Park, home field for the Blaze. I’ve been playing on that field since the seventh grade and it has a lot of memories for me including our most recent provincial Championship.”

If you turn pro one day, what’s the first thing that you’d like to buy with a portion of the signing bonus?

“The first thing I would do is pay off my parents’ house. My family has sacrificed so much to support my baseball journey, and being able to give back to them would be incredible.”

What degree do you want to obtain from university, and why?

“I would like to focus on analytics so that I can have a career in baseball even after playing.”

Who is the most influential person in your baseball life and why?

“It’s hard to name just one person, because several people have played big roles in my baseball journey. My dad, Anthony Duncan, first introduced me to the game and coached me until I was 10. He taught me the foundational mechanics of pitching and instilled a competitive mindset. My coaches, Jamie Bodaly and Doug Mathieson, have guided my development with the Blaze and provided me with great opportunities for exposure. When I was 14 years old, Greg Hamilton gave me a chance by selecting me to the Junior National Team and has continued to mentor me with valuable advice. Finally, my pitching coach, Kyle Lotzkar, has worked with me since the ninth grade helping refine my mechanics, build routines, and stay consistent in my progress. Each of these people has shaped me as both a player and a person, and I know I can always count on them to have my best interests at heart.”

What four people (living or passed away) would you invite to a mythical diner and why?

Kobe Bryant ... for his mentality, Michael Jordan ... as he was hyper competitive, Randy Johnson ... a big lefty who attacked hitters and Mariano Rivera ... my all-time favorite baseball player. I could learn so much from all four of these people to help me become the player I want to be with traits of all of them combined.”

What made you choose baseball to focus on over all the other sports you might have played?

“I liked the fact that the defence has the ball, also it’s a technical sport so you will always have to work on your mechanics to get better.”

If you were reading a scouting report on yourself, what’s the one thing you would most want it to say?

“I attack the zone early and I’m not afraid of the contact.”

If you had to say baseball was a certain percentage physical/talent and a certain percentage mental, what would your percentages (out of 100%) be?

“I would say 50/50, even if you throw 100 mph you can’t be impressed by the other team and trust yourself to be able to compete.”

Who was your favourite teammate over the years, and why?

“I would say Jérome-Félix Lessard, he was like me, really big with the process and we were really able to mix fun and grind.”

Your favourite park to play in, and why ... beside Rogers Centre?

“Parc Melancon in St-Jérome, I have so many memories from there.”

If you turn pro one day, what’s the first thing that you’d like to buy with a portion of the signing bonus?

“A trip to my parents, being able to give them back what the game’s giving me so a trip first and then probably help them with the money so they would not have to work again.”

What degree do you want to obtain from university, and why?

“I would say Arts, that could be cool to work in a creative job.”

Most influential person in your baseball life and why?

“My parents -- Helene and Benoit. They have helped me live my dream and to work, so yes they are my number 1 supporters.”

What four people (living or passed away) would you invite to a mythical diner and why?

“Bryan Woo, Anthony Rizzo, my late grandpa Jean-Jacques and Javier Baez. I would choose them to know more about what they lived and how they became who they are.”

What made you choose baseball to focus on over all the other sports you might have played?

“I chose baseball over every other sport that I have played, because I was introduced to it when I was younger by my father at the age of three. He played ball and had all his techniques to hand over to someone. But apart from that, I personally chose baseball because I saw what I was able to do with the talents that God has given me. My past coach Ian Jordan says, “God given talent.” After continuous repetition, I put everything into my baseball and greatly enjoy it. I also love to play under great pressure, which I love to thrive in.”

If you were reading a scouting report on yourself, what’s the one thing you would most want it to say?

“I would like it to say I had major-league power, elite arm strength, and slightly above average speed. Those would be my preferred showcase notes. If I were to have a scouting report on my gameplay, I would want to see great plate discipline, Great power, great two-strike hitter, Great fielder at third base, and knows how to get around the bases. But above all, I would want it to say elite-level hitter.”

If you had to say baseball was a certain percentage physical/talent and a certain percentage mental, what would your percentages (out of 100%) be?

“At first, when I was younger, around 10 years of age, I would have said physical, because I never really had an issue with hitting the ball far, and the level was AA. Not so strong, is it? But if I were to compare myself today, I would certainly respond to a question like this with my answer being mental. I learned this from experience because I had a lot of failures ever since I started playing with the older age group as an underclass player. But I learned how to deal with it when I reached St. John’s for the Canada Summer Games. I told myself, if I’m not gonna tell myself I’m gonna be the different player in the park, then nobody is gonna help you. From there, I developed a very strong sense of dominance over everyone on the field. I also have a mindset off the field that if I act like I am better than others, rather than treating everyone the same, I will have my gifts taken from God. For the humbled will be honored, as a verse I see in the bible.”

Who was your favourite teammate over the years, and why?

“It would be a player I played with in 11u till 13u for three years. He and I were together until I got the promotion to go player with the 15u as a 12-year-old. He is very straight and has never been envious towards me; my other friends would be very inconsistent with me. But I really adore Jesse Ducharme (Laval, Que.) was more than a teammate, a brother.”

Your favourite park to play in, and why ... beside Rogers Centre?

“Fenway Park. The whole stage, just to step on the field and see the lights shine on you, I find it different than other parks. But my Blue Jays experience was extremely nice as well.”

If you turn pro one day, what’s the first thing that you’d like to buy with a portion of the signing bonus?

“The first thing I would do with the bonus would be to put money into a building and build my plan B money from there. But if I really get a nice amount from one of the lower rounds, I would start to pay back my parents slowly, then treat myself to a luxury item.”

What degree do you want to obtain from university, and why?

“A degree I would like to obtain through my university years, would be to train in mechanical engineering. I would like to know how to work around with engines while also having a high income.”

Most influential person in your baseball life and why?

“Jarren Duran. I personally like his grinder style of gameplay. He also had a lot of obstacles to become the person he is today, with all the hate and threats. He handled them and became better. I also like the way he backs up and preaches ways to success.”

What four people (living or passed away) would you invite to a mythical diner and why?

“My mythical dinner would be Jesus, my father, Armen, Barry Bonds, my old self. I would have been full of questions that would have been answered at that table.”

What made you choose baseball to focus on over all the other sports you might have played?

“I saw potential in myself as a ball player and every other sport I just wasn’t made for.”

If you were reading a scouting report on yourself, what’s the one thing you would most want it to say?

“I would want it to say I’m an intimidating pitcher in the mound and I know how to control the game.”

If you had to say baseball was a certain percentage physical/talent and a certain percentage mental, what would your percentages (out of 100%) be?

“I’d say 60% for physical, 80% talent.”

Who was your favourite teammate over the years, and why?

“My favourite teammate over the years has to be Thomas Mitchell, we became teammates in 2023 but we were always the number 1 and 2 guys.”

Your favourite park to play in, and why ... beside Rogers Centre?

“My favourite park would have to be East Cobb complex (in Georgia).”

If you turn pro one day, what’s the first thing that you’d like to buy with a portion of the signing bonus?

“I’d like to pay my parents back for everything they’ve done for me.”

What degree do you want to obtain from university, and why?

“Business ... because if baseball doesn’t work out I have a lot of options outside of baseball.”

Most influential person in your baseball life and why?

“My grandfather, Dad, Mom and brother.”
