Estey: Miller, Perez dominate at Men’s Championships

Jay Miller, of the Chatham Ironmen, and Moises Perez, of Team Quebec, highlighted the major award winners at the conclusion of 2026 Canadian Men’s Championships in Miramichi, N.B. on Monday afternoon.

Miller, 23, a native of Cornerbrook in Newfoundland & Labrador, had a tournament for the ages as he was named the top defensive player. In four days, Miller went 3-0 on the mound tossing 19 innings. He allowed five runs on 13 hits while walking seven, striking out 34 and finishing with a 2.37 ERA for the championships.

Perez, 31, a native of Montreal, who plays for his club team -- Jets de Montreal in the Ligue de Baseball Majeur du Quebec -- was named the tournament’s top hitter.

Perez had a huge power display on the weekend as he went 10-for-21 (.476 batting average) in six games, hitting six home runs as well as four singles. He walked three times (two intentional) and scored nine runs while collecting 11 RBIs in helping Quebec to a silver medal this year.

The tournament also saw an all-star team named as well. There were four players from the host Chatham named as well as two players from Team Quebec. There were also players from Team New Brunswick (Charlottetown Islanders), Team Ontario (Windsor Stars) and Team Nova Scotia (Kentville Wildcats).
