First Team academic honours for Cottam

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky junior catcher/first baseman Kole Cottam has been named Academic All-District First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Cottam is a kinesiology major and maintains a 3.56 grade point average.

The Knoxville, Tenn. native was voted to the District 2 team by sports information directors from around the country and will now have an opportunity to be voted to the Academic All-America team.

His father Jeff, who hails from Burlington, Ont. played at the University of Memphis and his uncle Danny was also a member of the Tigers. Jeff met Kole’s mother Kori while at Memphis. Kori played on the basketball team and found a job in Knoxville, Tenn. 

Cottam has had a sensational season on the field as well as in the classroom. He leads the Wildcats with a .355 batting average, 46 runs scored and 66 hits. His 16 home runs ranked second to Luke Heyer’s 17 and his 44 RBI are third on the team. He has started all 48 games this season and recently was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week.
