Over 1,000 people are slated to attend Expos Fest next April 25 after the event sold out in 32 minutes on Saturday.
It was an amazing response by people paying $225 a pop that includes autographs, a four-course dinner, beer and wine at the Embassy Plaza in the suburban Montreal city of Laval.
The tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. E.T. and the tickets were all purchased by 10:32.
Randy Johnson is the headliner at the event. The 1988-89 Expos pitcher will be popular at the autograph table because many Expos fans don't have his elusive signature.
"We wanted to get a big name we haven't had before so, Randy was the biggest,'' Expos Fest founder and president Perry Giannias said. "This is the first time we considered bringing him. He was totally open to the idea which made our negotiations easy.
"It was all done through (agency) Octagon and it was incredibly fast. We weren’t sure about his thoughts on the city since the (1989) trade but after seeing our photos and videos of past galas, I think he felt comfortable and anxious to help.
"Randy doesn’t sign jerseys with less than five autographs because he wants his single signed jerseys to be available only for charities. True to his word, he will be signing one for our live auction.''
The other first-timers at the event are Don DeMola, Balor Moore, Tom Foley, Andy McGaffigan, Elias Sosa, Fernando Seguignol, Kirk Rueter and Dave Veres.
Also appearing will be the father-son team of Felipe and Moises Alou, Steve Rogers, Bill Lee, Claude Raymond, Bill Stoneman, Bill Atkinson, Denis Boucher, Mike Fitzgerald, Darrin Fletcher, Rondell White and Michael Barrett.
Montreal Canadiens great Larry Robinson will also be a special guest at the event.
