Gulls down Dawgs in first game of WCBL West finals

The Okotoks Dawgs fell 7-3 to the Sylvan Lake Gulls in Game 1 of the West Division finals on Sunday at Seaman Stadium.

Offensively, the Dawgs collected eight hits, with Zane Skansi (Campbellsville University) providing the biggest swing of the day — a solo home run.

Ricardo Sanchez (Gonzaga University), Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.), Nash Crowell (Yarmouth, N.S.), Logan Grant (Calgary, Alta.), Aidan Rose (Calgary, Alta.), Jake Skaggs (Pittsburgh State University) and Barry Eiseman (Reinhart University) each added a hit. Rose drove in a run, while Grant also tallied an RBI.

On the mound, Gavin Wuschke (Regina, Sask.) worked five innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out six. Reid Madariaga (Seattle University) and Garrett White (Bellevue University) each threw a scoreless inning in relief, combining for two strikeouts. The Dawgs’ bullpen allowed just one run in the final three innings.

The Dawgs will now head to Sylvan Lake for Game 2 of the best-of-three WCBL West Division Finals on Monday.
