TORONTO, Ont. - The Toronto Maple Leafs have re-signed veteran pitcher Marek Deska (Cambridge, Ont.).

Deska started his IBL career in 2006.

He has also spent time in the Dutch Major League and with the Polish National Team, and led the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to numerous OUA championships.

Deska is eighth all-time in the IBL in appearances (145), ninth in strikeouts (599), 12th in innings pitched (648 1/3) and 13th in wins (47).

Last season, he finished with a 2-2 record in 10 games with 23 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings with an ERA of 4.35.

“I love Marek,” said Leafs GM Jeff Lounsbury. “I have competed against him since his days at U of T, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. He understands pitching, he understands the game, and he still loves to compete and he is doing it still at a very high level. He gives us a chance to win every time he has the ball and he can teach our young pitchers so much about pitching and being a pro.”
