BATAVIA, NY… Genesee baseball player Jakob MacLeod will be heading to Ave Maria University near Naples, Florida to continue his academic and athletic career as he signed his Letter of Intent Wednesday. MacLeod will make an impact as soon as he steps on campus for the Gyrenes.

The Toronto, Ontario native has two career no-hitters, both taking place this season. The first was during Spring Training in Florida and the second was on April 11 against Finger Lakes Community College.

“My most memorable no hitter was against Finger Lakes”, MacLeod said.

In the game against the Lakers, MacLeod had seven strikeouts while only giving up three walks. MacLeod is currently hitting .314 with one home run in 36 games played.

“My dad says that you never know who is watching and it is completely true,” MacLeod said. “While pitching in Florida, the coach of the Gyrenes came and saw me pitch without me knowing. The coach liked what he saw and a few weeks later, he contacted me and today, I signed my letter of intent to play at Ave Maria University.”

Ave Maria participates in The Sun Conference and is an NAIA school. The 2019 Gyrenes team finished their season with a record of 19-32, with a 7-12 record in conference play.
