Blue Jays from Away

The Blue Jays' minor leaguers went 3-5 over eight games with the GCL Blue Jays finishing a game previously suspended as well as playing their regularly scheduled game.

Buffalo Bisons 6, Columbus Clippers (CLE) 3

The triple-A Buffalo Bisons scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth on a Rowdy Tellez home run as they beat the Columbus Clippers 6-3.

Rowdy's three-run bomb gave the Bisons their margin of victory and he was 1/4 with three RBI. Dalton Pompey (Mississauga, Ont.) had another good game, going 2/4 with two RBI and a run but was caught stealing. Socrates Brito hit two doubles, going 2/3 with a walk and two runs while Bo Bichette (1/4, R) and Jonathan Davis (1/3) each had a hit. Reese McGuire hit a solo shot in the seventh inning, going 1/3.

Conor Fisk had a strong start, allowing just one run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts over five innings. Buddy Boshers was charged with a blown save, allowing a run on two hits with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings while Zach Jackson got the win, allowing a run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Ty Tice struck out two in the ninth to earn his third save.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Reading Fightin Phils (PHI) 3

After finishing the game that started on Thursday (see July 18 Minor League Report), the double-A Fisher Cats' bats were cold, scoring a run on two hits in support of Nate Pearson to lose 3-1 to the Reading Fightin Phils.

Santiago Espinal (1/3, 2B, R) and Nash Knight (1/3, 2B) each had a double while Logan Warmoth drove in the club's only run, going 0/2 with a walk. Christian Williams and Vinny Capra also walked once each.

Nate Pearson threw 62 pitches over just 3 1/3 innings, allowing a run on two hits and three walks, striking out three to take the loss. Vinny Nittoli allowed two more runs on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 1 2/3 and Jake Fishman tossed a 1-2-3 sixth, striking out one.

Game postponed due to rain.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Burlington Bees (LAA) 7

The low-A Lansing Lugnuts couldn't muster much on offence, mounting a futile rally in the ninth inning to score one more run, ultimately succumbing in a 7-2 loss to the Burlington Bees.

The Lugnuts didn't look comfortable at the plate, getting just four hits with doubles by Gabriel Moreno (1/4, R), John Aiello (1/4, R), Otto Lopez (Montreal, Que.) (1/4) and an RBI single by Jake Brodt (1/4, RBI) with Aiello sparking the two out rally in the ninth with his double, two walks from D.J. Neal (0/3, BB) and Rafael Lantigua (0/3, BB, E) and Brodt's RBI single.

Fitz Stadler started with a couple of solid innings but ran into trouble in the third, ultimately giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts through three. Juan Nunez looked good on the mound but left a couple of pitches up the zone, allowing two runs on three hits that included two big home runs and he struck out four, flashing a 96 mph fastball and solid slider. Joey Pulido took over, allowing a run on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in the final 3 1/3 innings.

Vancouver Canadians 7, Spokane Indians (TEX) 2

The class-A Short-Season Vancouver Canadians finally picked up a win against the Spokane Indians, beating them 7-2 on Friday.

Nick Fraze was perfect through three innings, striking out two and Jared DiCesare made his Vancouver debut, giving up two home runs for two runs among four hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Grayson Huffman walked one and allowed a hit in 1 1/3 innings and Andy McGuire allowed two hits but struck out the side in the ninth.

Tanner Morris was 2/5 with a double and a run while Jesus Lopez was 2/5 with a run and Cameron Eden was 2/5. Trevor Schwecke was 1/3 with a triple and a walk, driving in a run and scoring two. Philip Clarke was 1/3, walking twice, driving in a run and scoring twice while Will Robertson was 1/3 with two walks, an RIB and a run. Brett Wright hit a double, going 1/4 with a walk and two RBI.

Bluefield Blue Jays 12, Burlington Royals (KC) 13

The Bluefield Blue Jays (Rookie Ball) couldn't catch a break, losing a see-saw battle with the Burlington Royals 13-12 in 11 innings to mark their third consecutive loss to the Royals.

Spencer Horwitz was 3/5 with a double, a walk, four RBI, two runs and a sac fly. Angel Camacho had a pair of hits, going 2/5 with a walk, a home run, two RBI and two runs. Andres Guerra was 2/4 with a double and three RBI and Davis Schneider was 2/6 with two doubles and a run. Miguel Hiraldo also had a pair of hits, going 2/7 with a double, an RBI and a run. Eric Rivera walked four times, going 1/3 with a stolen base and two runs while Patrick Morris was 1/6 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Ryan Sloniger was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI, a run and was hit by a pitch twice. D.J. Daniels was 1/6 with a double.

Alejandro Melean allowed the first four runs, giving up a home run among five hits with two walks and five strikeouts over five innings. Gaudy Ramirez ran into trouble in the sixth, allowing four more runs on a hit and three walks with a strikeout in 1/3 of an inning, leaving two runners on for Meliton Reyes, both of whom scored. Reyes, allowing three more runs (one earned) on five hits with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Austin Havekost struck out three in two innings, making his Bluefield debut and Aldo Ovando allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit with a walk in 1 1/3 innings to take the loss.

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Phillies East 3

The GCL Blue Jays completed their suspended game against the Phillies East, losing 3-2.

The Blue Jays had just four hits, with Yhon Perez going 1/3 with a run, Orelvis Martinez going 1/1 and Jhon Solarte going 1/3 with a walk and an RBI. Javier D'Orazio was 1/4 and Hugo Cardona was 0/2 with a walk and an RBI via a sac fly.

Austin Havekost went one inning, giving up a run on two hits with a strikeout and Michael Dominguez was outstanding, allowing two hits and a walk with five strikeouts in three innings. Jimmy Robbins allowed four hits but struck out four in three innings and Adrian Hernandez took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) in the eighth inning, allowing a hit and striking out two.

GCL Blue Jays 0, GCL Phillies East 1

The GCL Blue Jays were one-hit in the second half of the double header with the Phillies East, losing 1-0.

Yhon Perez had the only hit, going 1/3 while Alberto Rodriguez was 0/1 with two walks and Jhon Solarte also walked.

Wilgenis Alvarado had a very good game, allowing just an unearned run on three hits with two walks and four strikouts in 5 2/3 innings and Julian Valdez finished the game, striking out the only batter he saw.

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL White Sox 4

The DSL Blue Jays got back in the win column when they weren't facing the DSL Reds, beating the DSL White Sox 6-4.

Yeison Jimenez had a double and a single, scoring a run while Glenn Santiago was 2/3 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base, a run and an RBI. Gary David also had two hits, going 2/3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs. Francisco Fajardo was 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run and Gabriel Martinez was 1/4 with two RBI. Emmanuel Sanchez also had a hit, going 1/5.

Fernando Chacon started, tossing 3 1/3 innings and giving up an unearned run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts while Marc Civit allowed just a hit and a walk, getting five ground outs and no fly outs over 2 2/3 innings, striking out one. Junior Guzman allowed three runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts in two innings and Bejardi Meza got the save, allowing a walk with one strikeout in the ninth.
