July 27, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report
By Jay Blue
Blue Jays from Away
The higher level minor league teams in the Toronto Blue Jays' system were a little sluggish on Friday night as the Lugnuts were the only full-season team to win. With wins by the the GCL and DSL Blue Jays, the organization's overall record was brought up to 3-4 with a rain out for Bluefield.
Buffalo Bisons 1, Durham Bulls 3
Chris Rowley held the Durham Bulls to just three runs but that was too much of an obstacle for the Buffalo Bisons to overcome in a 3-1 loss. Rowley went 7 2/3 innings, allowing a three run home run among five hits and one walk with three strikeouts. John Stilson came on to strand two runners and strike out two batters over the final 1 1/3 innings.
The offence had just five hits including a pair of doubles from Dwight Smith Jr. who scored the club's only run and two singles from Rob Refsnyder who drove in the Bisons' run.
Player of the Game: Dwight Smith Jr.
Roster Notes: Andrew Case (Saint John, N.B.) was sent back to Buffalo from New Hampshire.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Portland Sea Dogs 6
Despite Emilio Guerrero's home run, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (42-62) fell 6-4 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Guerrero was 2/4 with a double and the home run while Tim Lopes (3/5, 2B, R) and Harold Ramirez (3/5, R) both had three hits. Lourdes Gurriel drove in two runs with a single and a walk and Matt Dean had two singles. Anthony Alford was on base three times, going 1/3 with two walks.
Conner Greene got into trouble early thanks to his walks: he walked six batters over five innings, allowing just two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Kender Villegas allowed the other four runs on two hits (including a home run) and a walk. Griffin Glaude, who has probably traveled more miles this year than anyone in the system serving as a "utility reliever," tossed two scoreless innings, walking one and striking out three in his double-A debut (although he made one appearance in triple-A Buffalo earlier this year).
Player of the Game: Emilio Guerrero
Roster Notes: Andrew Case (Saint John, N.B.) was promoted to Buffalo and Griffin Glaude was sent from Lansing to New Hampshire.
