The Toronto Blue Jays' minor league affiliates were on the wrong end of two 1-0 losses on Friday as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Lansing Lugnuts both wasted strong outings from their starting pitchers. The Buffalo Bisons were the only winners, opening up a series at home on the right note.
Buffalo Bisons 9, Charlotte Knights 4
The Buffalo Bisons are pleased to welcome the Charlotte Knights to Buffalo, beating them 9-4 in the opening game of their series. The Bisons trailed 4-2 until the seventh inning when the offense took over, scoring seven runs combined over the seventh and eighth innings to seal the win. Shane Opitz was 2/3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs and Jake Elmore was 2/4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run. Christian Lopes was on base three times, going 1/2 with two walks, two RBI and a sacrifice fly while Mike Ohlman also drove in two runs, going 1/3 with a double and two walks. Ian Parmley drove in a pair, going 1/3 with a walk, a double and two runs.
Jarrett Grube started the game, giving up four runs on six hits and four walks over four innings of work but the bullpen was excellent in relieving him. Jeff Beliveau continued his streak of strong outings, throwing two innings and allowing just a hit and a walk while striking out four. Matt Dermody got the win, moving to 5-0 on the year, tossing an inning of relief, giving up a walk and a hit but striking out the side. Dominic Leone and Chris Smith each followed with a scoreless inning.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 0, Hartford Yard Goats 1
Chris Rowley was a hard-luck loser for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats as the offense failed to score in a 1-0 loss to the Hartford Yard Goats. Rowley threw seven innings, needing just 84 pitches while giving up a solo home run among just three hits. Rowley didn't walk anyone and struck out eight in his best performance of the year. Tim Mayza followed and pitched a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout.
The offense had seven hits but was very quiet throughout the game. Richard Urena (1/4) had the club's only extra-base hit and just Gunnar Heidt and Matt Dean failed to get a hit.

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Jupiter Hammerheads 8
Cavan Biggio accounted for all of the Dunedin Blue Jays' scoring in yet another loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads, this time by a score of 8-1. Biggio hit a solo home run and had one of just two hits for the D-Jays. Dalton Pompey (Mississauga, Ont.) continued his rehab, going 0/4 with two strikeouts and an outfield assist.
Angel Perdomo got the start for the Blue Jays, going six innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on just four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Tom Robson (Richmond, B.C.) threw two innings following Perdomo, walking one while Connor Eller had a rough ninth inning, allowing four runs on five hits.
Player of the Game: Cavan Biggio
Lansing Lugnuts 0, West Michigan Whitecaps 1
The Lansing Lugnuts were also shut out, losing 1-0 to the West Michigan Whitecaps as they opened their series. Catcher Andres Sotillo was 2/3, accounting for 40% of the Lugnuts' hits. Bradley Jones was 1/2 with two walks and Edward Olivares was on base twice with a single and walk.
Patrick Murphy went six innings, scattering nine hits and giving up the only run in the game, although it was unearned. Murphy got five ground outs and just one fly out while striking out six and walking one. Griffin Glaude provided a scoreless seventh and Nick Hartman struck out two in a scoreless eighth.
