Blue Jays from Away

The Blue Jays' organization was 3-5 on Tuesday, getting all of its wins from the Short-Season clubs in Vancouver, Bluefield and the Dominican Republic.

Buffalo Bisons 3, Indianapolis Indians 8

The Buffalo Bisons weren't able to keep pace with the Indianapolis Indians as they opened a home stand with an 8-3 loss. Teoscar Hernandez is heating up with the bat, going 2/4 with a triple and a run while Gregorio Petit hit his third home run of the season, going 1/4. Jon Berti was 1/3 with a triple and a run and Roemon Fields was 1/3 with an RBI and a stolen base.

Luis Santos allowed four runs on six hits and a walk in three innings and Jeff Beliveau was hit hard, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings. Mike Bolsinger went 1 1/3 innings, stranding two inherited runners and striking out a pair. John Stilson and Carlos Ramirez each threw a scoreless inning and Chad Girodo gave up a run on two hits in the ninth.

Player of the Game: Teoscar Hernandez and Gregorio Petit

Roster Notes: Miguel Montero was sent to Buffalo on a rehab assignment and Jake Elmore was traded to the New Orleans Baby Cakes.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Hartford Yard Goats 6

Ryan Borucki had the start for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and, while he was able to hold off the Hartford Yard Goats for six innings, it was the seventh that hurt him in a 6-1 loss. Borucki went seven innings, giving up four runs (all in the seventh inning), allowing eight hits and just one walk with five strikeouts. Kender Villegas tossed an inning and gave up two runs on three hits including a home run and Andrew Case (Saint John, N.B.) threw a scoreless ninth.

Reese McGuire was 2/4 with a home run and all of the Fisher Cats except for Harold Ramirez and Lourdes Gurriel had one hit each, while Jonathan Davis adding a walk.

Roster Notes: Kender Villegas was activated off the DL.

Dunedin Blue Jays 8, Palm Beach Cardinals 9

The Dunedin Blue Jays generated eight runs on 12 hits but it wasn't enough as the bullpen collapsed in a 9-8 loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals. Jordan Romano (Markham, Ont.) was in line for the win, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts through five innings. Adonys Cardona allowed another two runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in two innings while Ryan Cook allowed a walk and a home run to the two batters he faced. Kirby Snead allowed another two runs in the eighth, but both were unearned and Jackson McClelland took the loss, giving up a run on two hits in the ninth.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Montreal, Que.) had a monster game, going 3/4 with a triple and four RBI while Connor Panas (Toronto, Ont.) also had three hits, going 3/5 with two doubles, two runs and an outfield assist. Michael De La Cruz was 1/3 with a walk and two RBI, scoring once while Jake Thomas was 2/4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs in the leadoff spot. Cavan Biggio scored twice, going 1/4 with a walk.

Roster Notes: T.J. Zeuch was placed on the DL.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Great Lakes Loons 12

The Lansing Lugnuts were hit hard, losing 12-2 to the Great Lakes Loons despite getting 11 hits with just two runs to show for it. Joshua Palacios was 3/5 and Kevin Vicuna (in his Lansing debut) and Nick Sinay each had two hits.

Andy Ravel returned to the starting rotation but it wasn't a successful return as he allowed three runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts in four innings. Griffin Glaude also made his return (I saw him on Thursday with New Hampshire), allowing five runs in the fifth inning. Denis Diaz allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits and three walks in 2/3 of an inning while Yonardo Herdenez gave up a run on two hits and two walks in two innings and infielder Luis Silva finished the game, striking out the only batter he faced.

Player of the Game: Joshua Palacios

Vancouver Canadians 10, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 5

The Vancouver Canadians doubled up on the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, winning 10-5 and striking for 17 hits. Cam O'Brien made his first game back count after his suspension for testing positive for an amphetamine. O'Brien was 4/5 with a double and a run as the club's DH. Brock Lundquist drove in four runs, going 3/5 with a double and a run while Logan Warmoth was 3/5 with an RBI, two runs and a stolen base and Norberto Obeso was 3/4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run. Deiferson Barreto was 2/4 with a run and Kacy Clemens drove in two runs with a single, going 1/5 with a run.

Starter Jose Espada allowed all five runs over four-plus innings, allowing seven hits and one walk. Miguel Burgos inherited the bases loaded and allowed two of those runners to score but went three innings without giving up a run of his own. Brayden Bouchey pitched two innings, striking out five.

Player of the Game: Cam O'Brien and Brock Lundquist

Roster Notes: Cam O'Brien was assigned to Vancouver from Bluefield.

Bluefield Blue Jays 11, Princeton Rays 9

The Bluefield Blue Jays continue to roll on, defeating the Princeton Rays 11-9 on Tuesday. Kevin Smith and Yorman Rodriguez each had a single, double and home run with Smith scoring three times and Rodriguez scoring twice and driving in two. Ryan Noda drove in three runs, going 2/5 with a double and a run. McGregory Contreras was 2/5 with an RBI and a run and Antony Fuentes drove in two runs, going 1/5 with a triple. Chavez Young was 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run.

Joel Espinal was charged with five runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings and Jose Nova finished the fourth. Alvaro Galindo gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk in 3 2/3 innings with five strikeouts. Joe DiBenedetto came on to finish the eighth and gave up two more runs in 1/3 of an inning. Ty Tice picked up the save by striking out the side in the ninth.

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Tigers West 5

The GCL Blue Jays were held at bay, losing to the GCL Tigers West 5-2. Claudio Galva allowed all five runs (four earned) on seven hits over five innings before Gaudy Ramirez took over for two scoreless, allowing two hits and striking out three. Justin Watts struck out a pair in the ninth, walking one.

Patrick Morris went 3/4 with a double and an RBI while Otto Lopez was 2/5. Davis Schneider was 1/3 with a double and a walk and Alejandro Kirk made his professional debut, going 0/2.

Roster Notes: Alejandro Kirk was added to the GCL Blue Jays' roster.

DSL Blue Jays 3, DSL D-backs1 2

The DSL Blue Jays held off the DSL D-backs1, beating them 3-2 after a strong start from Emanuel Vizcaino. Vizcaino allowed just one hit and two walks over four innings, striking out four. Alexander Molina gave up a run on two hits in two innings and Nicolas Medina earned the win, giving up an unearned run on two hits in two innings. Luis Mendoza got the save with a scoreless ninth.

Victor Figueroa led the offence, going 3/4 with two RBI while Hector Guerrero was 2/4 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Kenny Mauricio and Steward Berroa were each 1/3 with a walk.
