The Junior National Team defeated the Miami Marlins DSL squad 6-4 in the first game of doubleheader action on Tuesday.

The Canadians scored six runs - including four in the seventh inning - on seven hits.

Box Score

Elliot Cadieux Lanoue (St-Pie, Que.) started for the Juniors and allowed just two hits and an unearned run while striking out five in four innings. Nick Frers (North Vancouver, BC) then took over and permitted three runs on six hits, while striking out three, in 4 2/3 innings.

Jorge Valdes (Milton, Ont.) and Myles Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) sparked the Juniors’ offence at the top of the lineup. Both collected a hit and a pair of RBIs in four plate appearances. Matt Evans (Tillsonburg, Ont.) also had a good day at the plate, finishing 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Simon Baker (Cochrane, Alta.) scored a couple of runs, while finishing 1-for-3.

Game 2

The Junior National Team dropped the second game of their doubleheader against the Pirates DSL squad, 3-2.

The Juniors scored two runs on three hits in the eight-inning contest.

RHP Jacob Wallace (Pincourt, Que.) was dominant in his start, allowing just one hit and striking out four in four innings.

The Junior National Team scored a pair of runs after a Valleyfield, Que., native Marek Lalonde’s fielder’s choice led to a miscue by the Pirates. Simon Baker (Cochrane, Alta.) had another strong performance at the plate going 1-for-2.

Deiten Lachance (Sherbrooke, Que.) and B.J. Peart (Markham, Ont.) collected the other two hits for the Juniors.

Benito Bonilla (Halifax, N.S.) held the Pirates in check in the last inning, striking out one in a scoreless frame.
