AJAX, Ontario – After nearly 18 months of inactivity because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Junior National Team program has resumed in-person baseball activities with a Training Camp at the Ajax Sportsplex, site of the 2015 Pan Am Games.

Thirty-eight athletes are in camp with fourteen inter-squad games scheduled from August 19 to September 1 at 1:30 p.m. each day.

Following camp, a roster will be selected from training camp participants to play in a seven-game friendship series against the United States’ 18U squad in Florida.

August 19 – CANADA RED 5, CANADA GREY 3 (BOX SCORE)

Louka Daoust (Repentigny, Que.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Turner Spoljaric (Lisle, Ont.) and Carter Krawchuck (St. Catharines, Ont.) turned in solid performances on the mound to lead Canada Red to a 5-3 win over Canada Grey.

Spoljaric allowed just one run over four innings of work that saw him scatter three hits and four walks with three strikeouts while Krawchuck fanned eight batters in his four innings on the mound. He allowed two runs on two hits and seven walks.

Jacob Zibin (Langley, BC) knocked in a pair of runs for Red while Oliver Mabee (Victoria, BC) cracked a doubled and walked twice.

Cole Patrick (Markham, Ont.) doubled in the fifth inning to bring in two runs and Myles Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) singled to centre to bring in a run in the third to pace Grey’s offence.

On the mound, Anson McGorman (Parksville, BC) struck out five batters over 3 2/3 innings pitched where he allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks. Conor Pote (Sherwood Park, Alta.) followed with 1 2/3 scoreless innings while Alexis Gravel (Repentigny, Que.), Ty Hamilton (Orleans, Ont.) and Micah Bucknam (Abbotsford, BC) each worked a scoreless frame.
