Mirabel, Quebec – For the second year in a row, a Quebec baseball player has been drafted in the first two rounds of the MLB draft.
Last year, Emilien Pitre (Repentigny, Que.) was selected in the second round by the Tampa Bay Rays.
This year, it was Charles Davalan who was taken 41st overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Competitive Balance Round A.
The 21-year-old outfielder’s selection came at the end of his second of four seasons of NCAA Division I eligibility.
Davalan arrived at the University of Arkansas last fall, after transferring from Florida Gulf Coast University, and he shone in his first year in NCAA Division I. He quickly became one of the Razorbacks’ key players on a team that made it to the semifinals of the College World Series.
Davalan led the Razorbacks in numerous offensive categories in 2025 and finished the season with some outstanding stats:
. .346 batting average;
. 93 hits;
. 12 doubles;
. 2 triples;
. 14 home runs;
. 60 RBIs;
. 10 stolen bases;
. .433 on-base percentage
Prior to being drafted, Davalan was named to the NCAA Division I Southeastern Conference 1st All-Star Team and the Perfect Game and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All America Second Team.
