Official Seattle Mariners News Release

SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the Mariners have signed free agent first baseman Josh Naylor to a five-year Major League contract through the 2030 season.

“Ensuring that Josh remains a Mariner for the long haul was a priority for us,” Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto said. “Josh’s intelligence, intensity, toughness, and competitiveness show up every day. He’s simply a winner.”

“From his first day as a Mariner, Josh has been a perfect fit on the field, in the clubhouse, and in our community,” Mariners Executive Vice President and General Manager Justin Hollander added. “We are thrilled that he will be with us for the next five seasons.”

“I’m going to be a Mariner again and I couldn’t be more excited,” said Josh Naylor. “From the moment I arrived, everyone in the organization welcomed and helped me. The players brought me in and loved my game right away, and the fans were incredible. Seattle has the best fanbase in baseball. They’re electric and support us through and through, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. I can’t wait to continue to play with these guys and bring the city a championship.”

Naylor, 28, was acquired by Seattle from Arizona prior to the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline on July 24 and finished the season with the Mariners. Between the Arizona and Seattle, Naylor combined to hit .295 with 81 runs, 29 doubles, one triple, 20 home runs, 92 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. He reached base at a .353 clip and slugged .462 for an .816 OPS in 147 games, accumulating 3.1 Wins Above Replacement (Baseball-Reference).

The left-handed hitting first baseman appeared in 54 games with the Mariners down the stretch, batting .299 with 32 runs, 10 doubles, 9 home runs, 33 RBIs and 19 stolen bases with a .341 OBP, slugging .490 for an .831 OPS and a 138 OPS+. Naylor also was a standout performer in the Mariners Postseason run, batting .340 with two doubles, three home runs, five RBIs, two stolen bases and a .967 OPS in 12 games.

In 163 career plate appearances at T-Mobile Park, Naylor is a .304 hitter with 26 runs, seven doubles, nine home runs, 34 RBIs and 12 stolen bases with an .869 OPS. Naylor recorded his first 20 home run, 20 stolen base season in 2025, becoming the 14th first baseman (done 19 times) with 20+ HR and 20+ SB in a season. He also joined Paul Goldschmidt (2016) and Jeff Bagwell (2x, 1997, ’99) as the only first basemen in MLB history with at least 20 HR and 30 SB in a season (min. 60% of games at first base).

Naylor made the American League All-Star team in 2024, registering career-highs with 31 home runs and 108 RBIs for the Cleveland Guardians.

Naylor has appeared in seven Major League seasons with the San Diego Padres (2019-20), Cleveland Guardians (2020-24), Arizona Diamondbacks (2025) and Seattle Mariners (2025-c), totaling 334 runs scored, 697 hits, 146 doubles, two triples, 104 home runs, 435 RBIs, 55 stolen bases and 221 walks, getting on base at a .329 clip, slugging .447 with a .777 OPS and 116 OPS+.

Naylor made his Major League debut with San Diego on May 24, 2019. He was traded to Cleveland on Aug. 31, 2020 and was traded by Cleveland to Arizona in exchange for right-handed pitcher Slade Cecconi on Dec. 21, 2024.
