The Okotoks Dawgs closed out their regular season with a dominant 9-2 win over the Energy City Cactus Rats in front of 4,912 fans at Seaman Stadium on Wednesday.

With the victory, the Dawgs finished the regular season atop the WCBL’s Western division with a 42-14 record.

The Dawgs’ bats were led by Ricky Sanchez who went 2-for-4. He also made history by playing all nine positions in the contest.

Matt Evans (Tillsonburg, Ont.) had another good day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a run while Cal Gates added a hit, two runs and two RBIs.

On the mound, right-hander Jaxon Mayervich (Vancouver, B.C.), from the Dawgs Academy, tossed three scoreless innings in his WCBL debut.

Dalton Hoffart and Reid Madriaga also contributed scoreless innings in relief, while position players Ricky Sanchez and Nash Crowell (Yarmouth, N.S.) came in to close out the game, with Crowell freezing the final hitter on a curveball.

The next game for the Dawgs will be Game 1 of the WCBL Playoffs on Friday against the Cactus Rats. First pitch Tuesday is set for 7:05 p.m. at Seaman Stadium.
