The GM's Perspective

Seven games and 32 innings was all it took before the New York Mets signed Zac Grotz to a minor league deal. When I said it would only be a matter of time before he got another shot, I didn’t realize it would only be a couple of weeks.

The last time we saw Grotz, he had just come off a nine-inning complete game shutout and put together 21 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings. Since, Grotz hasn’t seen the same amount of success (1-1, 6.55 ERA, six BB, 12 SO), but still ranks fifth in league in ERA and ninth in strikeouts with 33.

This will be the second time Grotz joins the affiliated ranks. His first two professional seasons were spent in the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations.

“We are all very happy for Zac,” said York Revolution manager Mark Mason. “He has worked extremely hard and has been very focused on getting better. We wish him the best and hopefully he will take full advantage of this great opportunity.”

It’s unknown where he’ll begin the next step in this journey, but for someone with a career 19-9 record and an impressive 2.62 ERA, success is one thing you can be certain off.

Congrats to Grotz on this amazing accomplishment, and kudos again to the Independent Leagues for making these deals possible.
