Canucks compete at Trailblazer: Allard, Chan, Lawson, Shah, Wooten, Yang

A total of 92 young women -- including six Canadians -- took part in the annual Trailblazer Series at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Fla.

In 2017, USA Baseball and Major League Baseball launched a new event for girls built around Jackie Robinson Day in celebration of baseball’s quintessential “trailblazer.” The objective of the event is to provide playing, development and educational opportunities to girls who play baseball.

How they fared:

Shah pitched two scoreless innings throwing 29 pitches, striking out 2. Shah also played shortstop and centre field, narrowly missed a homer, hitting a ball off the centre field fence.

Allard batted lead-off for her team, helping them to a 2-0 record. In her two games, Allard pitched, played outfield, and went 4-for-7 at the plate, stealing multiple bases.

Chan worked two innings, allowing two runs, and striking out five. Chan scored multiple runs in her teams’ two games.

Lawson caught the first game and pitched two innings in the second, and at the plate, had three hits.

Yang pitched two innings and also played second base, shortstop and outfield.

All were happy to meet the other talented girls and amazing coaches.
