According multiple reports, the Houston Astros will call up Canadian Abraham Toro (Longueuil, Que.) from the triple-A Round Rock Express today.

The ABC grad, who has played primarily third base this season, owns a combined .324/.411/.527 slash line in 114 game between double-A and triple-A in 2019. He has also belted 17 home runs and 31 doubles and has 80 RBIs.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound infielder is set to become the 12th Canadian to play in the big leagues this season.

The 22-year-old slugger, who was scouted by Jim Stevenson (Leaside, Ont.), is in his fourth season in the Astros organization after being selected in the fifth round in the 2016 MLB draft out of Seminole State College.

A graduate of Vanier Secondary School in St. Laurent, Que, Toro is a switch-hitter who has had a red-hot start to his triple-A career, collecting 28 hits in 16 games and batting .424 for the Round Rock Express.

The Astros will have to make a corresponding roster to accommodate Toro. With shortstop Carlos Correa being placed on the injured list on Wednesday, it’s expected that the Astros will shift Alex Bregman from third base to shortstop and Toro will man the hot corner.
