EUGENE, Ore. – While they didn't hit quite the offensive heights that they did on Friday, the UBC Thunderbirds still had enough juice to take down Bushnell for the third time this weekend.
The win means that the 'Birds have won five straight conference games, with a non-conference loss to Lewis-Clark State in the middle of those victories.
Myles Chamberlain (Victoria, B.C.) had a strong performance on the mound, with his only major blip coming on just the second batter he faced, when Bushnell's Nate Stevens took him yard with a bomb to centre field. He locked back in from there, however, not allowing any more runs and only four more hits before he was replaced after the sixth inning.
The T-Birds' hitters provided the best response to the Beacons' early home run: two homers of their own. First, it was David Krahn (Langley, B.C.) who launched a solo shot to lead off the fourth, before Kyle Yip (Calgary, Alta.) did the exact same thing to begin the sixth.
Braeden Scott (Vancouver, B.C.) provided some insurance with an RBI single late on, before Lucas Huynh (Vancouver, B.C.) earned his second save of the season in the 1 1/3 innings – striking out three of the five batters he faced.
Next up for the T-Birds is a non-conference matchup against NCAA Division I side Seattle University on Wednesday, March 4. That game will take place in Seattle, before the 'Birds battle Warner Pacific in Portland in a four-game series next Saturday and Sunday.
