BARRIE, ONT. – Welland is one win from the Dominico Cup.
The Jackfish took a 3-1 lead over Barrie in the best-of-seven final after a 5-1 victory on Saturday at Athletic Kulture Stadium. Game 5 is Sunday in Welland, where the Jackfish can clinch a championship.
Welland’s Robert Mullen drove in two runs in Game 4. Jake Sanford went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Brendan Luther drove in a run, and Jonah Weisner had an RBI and two of Welland’s six steals. Matteo Porcellato also swiped a pair of bases.
Euclides Leyer went eight innings on the mound and allowed an unearned run on four hits. He walked one with nine punchouts.
Noel McGarry Doyle went 2-for-3 with a run for the Baycats. He doubled to start the bottom of the seventh and scored on a passed ball two hitters later.
Frank Garces took the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in eight innings. He walked two and fanned four.
