The Canadian Women’s National Team Development Camp featured international competition on day two of the program.
Game 1
Canada dropped a close 4–2 decision to the USA Stars in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
While the result went to the hosts, the Canadian side demonstrated depth and quality pitching throughout seven innings. Juliette Kladko (Vancouver, B.C.), Alizée Gélinas (Trois-Riviéres, Que.), Mikael Fields (Shortts Lake, N.S.), and Raine Padgham (Abbotsford, B.C.) combined to allow just two earned runs, striking out four and holding the Stars’ bats to scattered contact across the afternoon.
Offensively, Ela Day-Bédard (Gatineau, Que.) provided a spark, tripling and scoring one of Canada’s two runs, while Lucie Anctil (La Procatiére, Que.) added an RBI single. Alli Schroeder (Fruitvale, B.C.) showed good plate discipline, reaching base twice and scoring a run as Canada.
Game 2
Canada wrapped up its doubleheader at the Women’s National Team Development Camp with a 18–3 loss to the USA Stripes squad at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
Despite the result, the Canadians continued to emphasize growth and game experience, with several players turning in solid performances at the plate.
Alizée Gélinas (Trois-Riviéres, Que.) led the offence with two hits, including a double and an RBI, while Mikael Fields (Saskatoon, Sask.), Juliette Kladko (Vancouver, B.C.), and Makenna Dobrowolsky (Saskatoon, Sask.) each added hits of their own. Sarah Pengelly (Burnaby, B.C.) drew two walks and scored a run, while Raine Padgham (Abbotsford, B.C.) and Cassie Matlock (Edmonton, Alta.) each swiped a base as part of Canada’s active approach on the base paths.
The pitching group of Emma Lecompte (Kelowna, B.C.), Liz Gilder (Port Moody, B.C.), Kyanna Faucher (Beauce, Que.), and Ally Neufeld (Boisevain, Man.) shared the workload on the mound, collecting key outs and continuing to gain valuable reps against strong opposition.
Canada will return to action Friday as the Development Camp schedule continues at the National Training Complex in Cary.
