The Junior National Team fell just short of a comeback on Friday, losing 10-9 to Puerto Rico in extra innings to drop their first game of the WBSC Americas U-18 Baseball World Cup Qualifier.

Baseball Canada has announced the names of the 20 athletes who will represent Canada at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Americas U-18 Baseball World Cup Qualifier in La Paz and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico from November 4 to November 13.

The Junior National Team defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates DIL 6-2 on Thursday to make it three victories in a row during their WBSC Americas U18 Baseball World Cup Qualifier Selection Camp.

The fifth edition of the World Baseball Classic (WBC) is set for March 2023 and Canada is set to compete in Pool C starting on March 12.

Jack Leger went the distance, tossing seven innings and allowing just one earned run, six hits and a walk to go along with two strikeouts to lead his Port City (NB) Pirates squad to a 7-2 victory over the eastern (PEI) Express en route to capturing the title at the 13U National Atlantic Championships in St. John’s.

The Junior National Team had a hot start to their final game of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup, playing a near perfect game over three and a half innings. However, it was all Panama after that as they managed to score runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to secure a 5-2 victory over the Canadians.
