Jays Care and Rogers hit HR for 10,000 kids this summer

“After surveying families about the needs of more than 600 children in its programs, Jays Care rapidly adapted its summer programs to address the challenge, by launching virtual summer camps. This online program, made possible in part by a $1 million donation from Rogers, welcomed nearly 10,000 virtual campers this summer in partnership with Toronto Community Housing and 49 Boys and Girls Clubs across the country.”

South Hastings league hoping to extend streak to 87 years

The outlaw South Hastings Baseball League has operated continuously since 1933, a streak of 86 consecutive years. And even though no games have been played so far this season due to COVID-19, league officials plan on running that streak to 87, hopefully with games beginning on Sept. 8. Blue Jays place Thornton on IL, recall Bergen, designate Pannone

For the second time this month, the Toronto Blue Jays have placed RHP Trent Thornton on the 10-day Injured List with right elbow inflammation. In a corresponding move, LHP Travis Bergen had his contract purchased by the MLB team and will be active for Monday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. To make room for Bergen on the 40-man roster, LHP Thomas Panonne was designated for assignment.

Majors blank Royals in Legacy Classic at Labatt Park

In the first London Majors game at Labatt Memorial Park in 376 days and the first game at Labatt Park in 2020, the London Majors defeated the visiting Guelph Royals 3-0 on Friday night. Labeled the Legacy Classic, the mid-August showdown allowed for Labatt Memorial Park to continue its streak as the longest continuously used ballpark in the world at 144 years.
