July 25, 2006 - The best day ever for Canadian MLBers?

July 25th seems to bring out the best in Canadian major leagues. Today, Joey Votto (Etobicoke, Ont.), Tyler O’Neill (Maple Ridge, B.C.) and Abraham Toro (Longueuil, Que.) each belted home runs for their respective teams. But as impressive as this was, it pales in comparison to the tremendous day that Canadian big leaguers had 15 years ago. Tokyo 2020 ‘a dream come true’ for Grieve and Reiniger

Although Canada won’t be part of the six-team field that will be competing in the Tokyo 2020 baseball competition, a pair of Canadian representatives will be directly involved in the event when play begins on July 28 with host Japan facing the Dominican Republic. Shari Reiniger of Sherwood Park, Alberta will be attending games in her role as one of three Technical Commissioners while Toronto’s Trevor Grieve will be one of 12 umpires working games.

Goldeyes to return to Winnipeg Aug. 3

Pending final review, the Winnipeg Goldeyes have been granted permission to return to Shaw Park beginning August 3. The Goldeyes’ official 2021 home opener is set for Tuesday, August 3, and a total of 20 regular season home games at Shaw Park have now been added to the remaining schedule. August 3 will mark the Goldeyes’ first game in their home park since September 2, 2019.
