Joey Votto has already been established as the favourite to win the National League MVP award this fall.

And Votto (Etobicoke, Ont.) is close to a new contract as well. USA Today reported that Votto and his agent have agreed on the framework of a 10-year, $225 million extension with St. Louis Cardinals general manager Walt Jocketty.  Sound like Albert Pujols numbers? Votto and Pujols are represented by the same agent.

The two sides talked a multi-year deal after Votto led the Reds to the NL Central title and won the NL MVP award in 2010 when he hit .324 with 37 homers and 113 RBIs. They agreed upon a three-year, $38 million deal locking up Votto through 2013.

Meanwhile, oddsmakers at Bovada Sportsbook in Las Vegas had listed Votto as the 7/1 favorite on MLB player props to win the NL MVP award this season.
