Hardy had an excellent start on July 5, when he beat the West Michigan Whitecaps 5-4. He threw seven strong innings and surrendered only four hits and one earned run, while striking out five. His overall record with Midwest League’s Ft. Wayne Tincaps is now 5-7 with a 2.63 ERA.

In his second start of the season on July 2, Smith picked up his first pro victory when he earned the 5-2 win over Arizona Rangers. He was very effective tossing five innings and gave up zero hits or runs while striking out four. In his rookie season, his overall record with the AZL Cubs is now 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA.

Continuing his outstanding season with the Miracle, Albers earned two saves this week. On June 30 he tossed one inning, surrendering three hits and one run in a 3-2 win over St. Lucie Mets, and picked up his second save of the season. On July 4 in a 9-5 win over St. Lucie, he earned his third save, closing out the game with two innings, giving up one hit and zero runs while striking out three. His overall record with the Miracle is now 4-1, three saves and a 1.61 ERA.

Another rookie picking up his first pro win, on July 3, Williams  picked up the victory in relief, in an 8-6 win over the Princeton Rays. In 3 2/3 innings he gave up only three hits and zero earned runs, striking out 2 batters. Overall with Bluefield, his record is now 1-1 with a 1.29 ERA.
