Submitted by: Toronto Blue Jays Media Department BLUE JAYS NOTES: Tonight’s leadoff home run by Melky Cabrera was just the 2nd time in Blue Jays history in which a player led off the home opener with a home run…The other was when Shannon Stewart accomplished the feat April 3, 2000 vs. KC...With the 48,197 in attendance marked a sellout crowd…TOR pitching staff have surrendered 11+ hits in three of the five games played this year…Have now lost three consecutive home openers moving their overall record to 26-12…Are now 16-9 in Rogers Centre home openers.
DUSTIN MCGOWAN made his first start since September 26, 2011…Tossed 2.2 innings marking his shortest start since June 19, 2007 vs. LAD (1.2IP)…The eight hits allowed were the most since he gave up eight June 27, 2008 vs. ATL.
MELKY CABRERA hit his 1st home run (1R, 1-1) of the season…Marks his 2nd career leadoff home run (May 24, 2013 vs. BAL)...Has now hit safely in all five TOR games this season…Now has 10 XBH vs. NYY…With the home run extended his hitting streak vs. the Yankees to 14 games and has hit safely in 15 of the 16 contests against his former team.
