So which program had the most players drafted or signed this year?

Going by sheer volume of current players and alumni selected in the the 2011 draft or signed by major league clubs, the top producers are the Ontario Blue Jays and the Ontario Terriers ... each had four players drafted or signed of the 35 players drafted, 23 of whom signed, plus six additional free agent signings.

The Academie Baseball Canada and the Toronto Mets shared top honours in 2010 with both programs having four players each selected.

The Langley Blaze and Alberta-based Vauxhall Academy shared top honours in 2009 with six apiece.

The Intercounty Terriers and the Blaze shared top honours with three apiece in 2008.

Now, if you went by dollar amounts the winner would be the Langley Blaze, coached by Doug Mathieson since Langley had two of the top three Canucks drafted and all three received six-figure signing bonuses.

The four Ontario Blue Jays, coached by Danny Bleiwas were C Justin Marra (Toronto, Ont.), INF Steven Wickens (Whitby, Ont.), 3B Eric Wood (Oshawa, Ont.) and INF Joey Hawkins (Whitby, Ont.) .

And the four Ontario Terriers, coached by Danny Thompson were RHP Roberto Suppa (Connor, Ont.), RHP Chris Cox (St. George, Ont.), LHP Shane Davis (Belmont, Ont.) and Luke Willson (La Salle, Ont.).

Of course that’s elite teams, the teams which had the best season at advancing players to the next level was Canadian Junior National Team, coach by Greg Hamilton, which had 23 current of former players drafted or signed.

Sharing the next spot with three players drafted or signed are the Langley Blaze, Montreal-based Academie Baseball Canada, Canisius College Griffins, the Ontario Terriers, the Windsor Selects and the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.
