On Day V of the 80-team event the DBacks Langley Blaze played the Marlins Scout Team to a 3-3 tie. Coach Doug Mathieson's team finished with a 3-1-2 record.
RHP Nick Trogrlic-Iverson (Oakville, Ont.) was tied with the 13th highest velocity of the day (88 mph). That together with his first outing -- a win over the Chicago Scouts Association, when he hit 91 mph -- earned him a scholarship to Central Arizona Community College. He used to be with the Field House Pirates.
RHP Jake Polancic (Langley, BC) faced three hitters and threw first-pitch strikes to all three.
David Tongue (Kelowna, BC) faced six men, struck out one and threw first-pitch strikes to all but one of the six hitters.
OF Clayton Keyes (Calgary, Alta.) of the Okotoks Dawgs, who has committed to Washington State, showed some power, a strong arm and hit well during his trip.
SS Kobe Hyland (Spruce Grove, Alta.) of the Spruce Grove White Sox and St. Francis Xavier Academy was “much improved defensively at shortstop,” according to one scout, showing a strong arm and range, while hitting well.
The Ontario Blue Jays lost 9-4 to Tri-State Arsenal as Sid Elford (Mississauga, Ont.) doubled and singled in three trips. Kurt Dawkins (Ajax, Ont.) had a pair of hits.
Chris Messer (Calgary, Alta.) struck out six as the Ontario Blue Jays finished with a 4-3-1 record.
Canada PG Gold finished with an 11-2 loss to Farrah Scout winding up 2-4.
C Andrew Yerzy (Toronto, Ont.) and LHP Matt Jones (Whitby, Ont) beat the South Florida Bandits 10-2.
In roubd-robin play they beat the Texas Drillers 5-2, tied GBG Marucci 2-2, lost 9-1 to Team Wilson.
