Jay Blue: Schimpf goes deep twice

Ryan Schimpf homered twice as the triple-A Buffalo Bisons lost 4-3 to the Toledo Mud Hens on a day when all four Blue Jays affiliates lost.

The Blue Jays teams had another kind of clean sweep, losing all four games they played.

Buffalo Bisons 4, Toledo Mud Hens 3
After breaking out on Thursday, the Bisons’ offense stalled on Friday with onlyRyan Schimpf providing fireworks in the form of two solo home runs for the Buffalonians. Schimpf was 2/3 with the two dingers while Chris Dickersondrove in the only other run.

Randy Wolf got the start and turned in another fine performance, going five innings and allowing just one run on four hits and three walks. Chad Jenkinsallowed another run in two innings while Colt Hynes blew the save and took the loss with two runs allowed before Bobby Korecky came in after an 11 minute rain delay to finish out the game.

Roster Notes: Jonathan Diaz was sent to Buffalo outright, removing him from the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8, Binghamton Mets 9
In a wild one, the Fisher Cats got out to a 3-0 lead in the first, only to see Binghamton respond with four in the second and another three in the fifth before the Fisher Cats could reply. The ‘Cats did score one in the seventh, three in the eighth and another in the ninth to take an 8-7 lead but the Mets scored twice in the bottom half of the ninth to beat New Hampshire. The offense was in fine form, with three hits from Kevin Nolan (3/5, 2B, 2 RBI, R), two from Jack Murphy (2/5, 2 RBI) and two from Dwight Smith, Jr. (2/4, 2 R).Pierce Rankin entered the game for Ian Parmley (who was 1/3) and hit a home run in the ninth inning to give the Fisher Cats the temporary lead. Jon Berti was 1/3 with two walks, a double and three RBI.

Newly signed Joel Pineiro made his first start but was hit hard, as he surrendered six runs over 4 2/3 innings before Austin Bibens-Dirkx could stop the bleeding with three innings of three-hit, one-run (one home run) ball.Scott Barnes contributed one third of an inning while Blake McFarland took his first loss of the season, allowing the two walk-off runs.

Roster Notes: Pineiro was activated and newly acquired Ronald Torreyeswas assigned to New Hampshire while Arik Sikula was placed on the seven-day DL.

Player of the Game: Nolan and Berti.

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Lakeland Flying Tigers 6
Dunedin continue to struggle with the bats as the club dropped another game without scoring a run. The D-Jays had only six hits including one from newly promoted Jonathan Davis. Jeremy Gabryszwski was solid in the start, scattering eight hits for just two runs in five innings but it was Matt Dermodythat gave up four unearned runs in 1 1/3 innings. Alberto Tirado allowed two hits but that was all over 1 2/3 innings.

Roster Notes: Losing an outfielder in Ian Parmley, the Dunedin Blue Jays received Davis from the Lansing Lugnuts.

Player of the Game: Gabryszwski.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, West Michigan Whitecaps 11
Sean Reid-Foley, the youngest pitcher on the Lugnuts, struggled again against West Michigan, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and one walk in three innings without striking anyone out. Chase Mallard went four innings and allowed the remaining six runs on seven hits and two walks whileCarlos Ramirez finished off the game with one scoreless inning.

Ryan McBroom was 1/4 with a two-run home run while Rowdy Tellez andD.J. Davis doubled and Gunnar Heidt tripled (and drove in a run). Anthony Alford walked twice.

Roster Notes: J.D. Davis was promoted to Dunedin while Chris Carlson was activated off the DL.
