The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from the New York Mets.

Ross has been optioned to triple-A Buffalo.

Ross, 26, made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this season, appearing in two contests at the MLB level before being claimed by the Mets.

Between triple-A Indianapolis, triple-A Syracuse, and double-A Altoona, Ross has played 70 games, slashing .184/.333/.418 with 13 doubles, 11 home runs, 29 RBIs, a 16.7% walk rate, and a .751 OPS, while throwing out 14 runners behind the plate.

The right-handed hitter from Santurce, Puerto Rico, was signed by the Pirates as a non-drafted free agent in 2022 out of Clarendon Junior College.

Over four seasons in the Pirates and Mets systems, Ross has played 285 minor league contests, slashing .189/.321/.413 with 39 doubles, a triple, 53 home runs, 148 RBIs and a .734 OPS.
