Blue Jays lose Galvis to Reds on waiver claim

The Cincinnati Reds have acquired veteran infielder Freddy Galvis from the Toronto Blue Jays on a waiver claim.

The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that SS Freddy Galvis has been claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds.

Galvis, 29, has hit .267 (120-for-450) with 24 doubles, 18 home runs and 54 RBI in 115 games this season. The 5-10, 185 lb. switch-hitter has posted a .299 OBP and a .743 OPS, with 43 of his 120 hits going for extra bases. He was signed by the Blue Jays on January 29 to a one-year deal with a club option for the 2020 season, and previously played in all 162 games in each of the last two seasons with the Phillies and Padres. The Punto Fijo, Venezuela native has a career batting average of .248 with 83 home runs, 354 RBI, and 55 stolen bases across 919 games with Philadelphia, San Diego and Toronto.
