KITCHENER, ONT. – Hamilton’s Owen Boon (London, Ont.) etched his name into the Intercounty Baseball League record book on Thursday night when he recorded the first nine-inning no-hitter in almost 50 years.

The Cardinals’ righty needed 111 pitches to accomplish a feat that hadn’t been done since Cambridge Terriers pitcher Jesse Orosco did it on June 16, 1977 – two years before his major league debut with the New York Mets.

Boon (5-0) walked three and struck out six in the Cards' 18-0 win at Jack Couch Park. He also lowered his earned-run average to 1.73 over eight starts (52 innings).

Offensively, Yolki Pena and Jommer Hernandez each homered twice. Pena drove in three, and Hernandez knocked in four. Tyler Duncan (Sooke, B.C.) went 2-for-4 with a two-run blast, Tanner Rempel (Abbotsford, B.C.) had a trio of hits, including a three-run home run. He also added an RBI off a bases-loaded walk.

Johnathan Solazzo (Mississauga, Ont.) and Brandon Nicoll (Coombs, B.C.) both had three hits and combined to score four runs, Niko Kekatos (Toronto, Ont.) singled and scored twice, while Jaden Brown (Mississauga, Ont.) and Josh Williams (Toronto, Ont.) each drove in a run.

Hamilton improved to 11-12.

Yadian Martinez (4-6) took the loss for Kitchener after allowing six runs on 10 hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out nine.

The Panthers fell to 9-16.
