Official Brock Badgers Athletics News Release

The Brock Badgers baseball team have reclaimed supremacy atop Ontario University Athletics (OUA).

Completing an undefeated 3-0 OUA championship campaign, the Badgers have captured their fifth provincial title and first since 2014, besting the Laurier Golden Hawks 2-0 in the OUA Gold Medal Game on Sunday at Welland Stadium.

Right-handed pitcher Evan Marks was untouchable on the mound, going the distance while blanking the Golden Hawks across all nine innings. The veteran hurler rose to the occasion, striking out eight batters without allowing a single walk.

Marks navigated through early trouble, stranding a runner on third base in the first inning with a clutch strikeout of Laurier's cleanup hitter.

With the game still scoreless entering the bottom of the third, catcher Jack Shannon provided a spark as he drew a leadoff walk. After advancing to third on a throwing error, shortstop Gavin Taylor drove a hanging breaking ball over the wall in left centre field to drive in the only runs of the game.

Laurier continued to threaten as the game progressed, putting runners on first and second with one out in the 7th inning. However, Taylor turned hero once again, snagging an infield line drive that he turned into an inning-ending double play.

With his 91st pitch of the contest, Marks finalized the victory with a swinging strikeout, capping a dominant complete-game shutout to secure provincial gold for the Badgers.

The Badgers championship title brings a dominant season to a fitting close, as they finish their season with a 15-3 record between the regular season and playoffs.

Within their three OUA Championship matches, the Badgers outscored their opponents 33-6, showcasing their dominance on both sides of the ball and firmly establishing themselves on top of the OUA mountain.
