Last spring was an unusual one for the Kirkwood twins.

They were not on the same team.

Former Okotoks Dawgs’ CF Garrett Kirkwood was in his junior year with the Columbus State Cougars.

Older brother and former Okotoks Dawg Drake Kirkwood was with the Colby Trojans as a red-shirt sophomore. He stayed behind a season due to a medical redshirt.

Now, next spring will be together with Columbus State.

Last spring, Drake hit .239 with seven doubles, two triples, five home runs and knocked in 28 appearing in 44 games. As a freshman he batted .206 with six doubles, one triple, and four home runs and knocked in 20 runs.

Meanwhile, Garrett hit .253 with four doubles, four home runs driving in 34 runs in 62 games at Columbus State.

At Colby, he posted a .379 batting average his sophomore year and finished with five home runs and 48 RBIs as he earned First Team All-Conference honours. He also earned Canadian Baseball Network all-Canadian Third Team honours in 2017 and Canadian Baseball Network Honourable Mention in 2016.

As a freshman he hit .384 helped his team win the JayHawk West Conference and earn Second Team All-Conference honours.
