Abraham Toro became the first Canadian to hit for the cycle in the affiliated pro ranks this season when he did so for the Kansas City Royals’ triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers in their 15-12, 11-inning win over the St. Paul Saints on Sunday.
In total, Toro (Longueuil, Que.) had five hits, six RBIs and three runs in the contest.
That performance was the highlight of his nine-hit week, which has earned him the Canadian Baseball Network’s Minor League Player of the Week award (June 16 to June 22).
Seven of Toro’s nine hits last week were for extra-base hits. He had two doubles, two triples, three home runs and 10 RBIs in five games.
The ABC grad started off the week with a solo homer in the Storm Chasers’ 21-2 loss to the Saints on Tuesday.
After not picking up a hit on Thursday, he had a triple and a two-run home run in the Storm Chasers’ 6-5 loss on Friday.
He followed that up with an RBI double in four at bats on Saturday before his offensive explosion on Sunday.
For the week, Toro went 9-for-23 (.391 batting average) with a 1.043 slugging percentage and a 1.418 OPS.
After spending parts of seven seasons in the big leagues with the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland A’s and Boston Red Sox, Toro has played the 2026 campaign for the triple-A Storm Chasers. He is batting .264 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs in 63 games.
