Tom Poole, of the Tampa Bay Rays’ class-A Charleston RiverDogs, topped all Canadians in the affiliated minor league ranks in hits (9), batting average (.563) and OPS (1.430) during the past week.

For his efforts, the Calgary native has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s Minor League Player of the Week (July 7 to July 12).

Poole started off the week by collecting two hits and two walks to help the RiverDogs to a 9-2 win over the Hill City Howlers on Wednesday.

The Canadian outfielder then added a double, a walk and an RBI the following day in the RiverDogs’ 7-3 loss to Howlers.

He followed that up by going 1-for-2 with two runs, two walks and an RBI to help his club to a 15-1 victory on Friday before recording a single in Saturday’s contest.

But Poole saved his best for last when he went 3-for-3 with two runs, two walks and an RBI to help propel the RiverDogs to a 13-4 win over the Howlers on Sunday.

In total, in six games last week, Poole has a .680 on-base percentage with six runs and five RBIs.

A Langley Blaze and Absolute Baseball Academy alum, Poole, 23, is batting .308 with four home runs and 27 RBIs in 37 games for the RiverDogs this season.
