Outfielder Owen Caissie (Burlington, Ont.) had three multi-hit games for the triple-A Iowa Cubs last week.
For his efforts, he has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s minor league Player of the Week (May 20 to May 25).
The 23-year-old Oakland A’s prospect started the week by registering two doubles in the High-A Lugnuts’ 7-6, 10-inning win over the South Bend Cubs. He followed that up with two singles in the Lugnuts’ 4-1 victory over the Cubs the next day.
Schofield-Sam then added a hit in each of the next two contests before belting a two-run home run for his second home run of the season in the Lugnuts’ 6-5 win on Saturday.
He completed the week with a three-hit peformance - a double and two singles - to help his club to an 8-4 victory on Sunday.
In total, the Ontario Blue Jays and Junior National Team grad went 10-for-24 (.417 batting average) in six games. He also had a .667 slugging percentage and a 1.037 OPS.
For the season, he is batting .352 with 44 hits in 32 games for the Lugnuts.
The 6-foot-1 left-handed hitter is in his sixth campaign in the A’s organization after being selected in the 12th round of the 2019 MLB draft.
