Game 1
The Junior National Team strung together 10 hits en route to an 8-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies DSL squad.
Starter Sean Duncan (Port Coquitlam, BC) was sharp in his three innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits.
Finn Hoeschen (North Vancouver, BC) delivered the big blow of the contest when he launched a two-run homer in the top of the fourth. The Canadian outfielder also added a sac fly to finish with three RBIs and a run scored.
Elliot Lascelles (Toronto, Ont.) sparked the Canadian offence with a three-hit day, including an RBI and a run. Esteban Dessureault (Trois-Rivières, Que.) added to the Canadian lead late in the game with a solo home run.
Tim Piasentin (Coquitlam, BC) also collected a pair of hits and scored a run.
Julian Sabourin (Ancaster, Ont.) shut the door with three scoreless innings to complete the game for the Juniors.
Game 2
Lascelles had three more hits in the second game of the doubleheader to help the Juniors to a 5-4 win over the Phillies DSL squad — and a sweep in the doubleheader.
Lascelles’ three-hit performance included an RBI double in the eighth that gave the Juniors a late cushion.
On the mound, William Labonte (Okotoks, Alta.) started and struck out four in three innings. Cole Dorland (Langley, BC) bounced back with a strong outing out of the bullpen, striking out two in three perfect frames.
Justin Rompré (Sainte-Anne-De-La-Perade, Que.) continued to swing a hot bat, adding another hit and RBI.
Right-hander Noah Powell (North York, Ont.) showed composure in the late innings, punching out four in three innings. He stranded the tying run at second base to shut the door on the Phillies.
With the win, the Junior National Team improves their Dominican Professional Academy Tour record to 4-3.
Action continues on Tuesday with a single game against the New York Mets DSL squad.
