Tocheniuk shines, Crowell homers in Dawgs’ win over Berries

The Okotoks Dawgs earned a split of their two-game series with the Saskatoon Berries with a 9-5 win at Seaman Stadium on Wednesday.

With the victory, the Dawgs improved to 28-14 on the season and remain two games ahead of the Sylvan Lake Gulls atop the West Division.

Offensively, leadoff hitter Ricky Sanchez (Pittsburg State University) led the way for the Dawgs, going 1-for-2 with three runs, two walks and an RBI.

Eric Machej (Okotoks, Alta.) added a single and a double, while Nash Crowell (Yarmouth, N.S.) belted his fifth home run of the season - a solo shot in the second inning.

On the mound, Brady Baltus (Bellevue University) started and went 3 2/3 innings before Preston Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.) took over and struck out four in 5 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

The Dawgs will now begin a two-game series at home against the Regina Red Sox before the WCBL All-Star Game on Saturday.
