It was a full-circle moment for Ty Doucette when his name popped up on the Major League Draft board on Monday.

When he was selected in the 10th round, 294th overall, by the Cincinnati Reds, Ty and his father Darren became the first Nova Scotia family members to be taken in the baseball draft.

Darren was drafted in the 25th round of the 1992 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. The elder Doucette played three years in the Cardinals’ minor league system, where he belted 18 homers.

It was a history-making moment for the Doucette family.

“It’s pretty cool to be the first (Nova Scotian) father-son to be selected,” said the 21-year-old first baseman. “There haven’t been many Nova Scotians selected, so it’s pretty cool that two of the people drafted are from the same family.

“I got to share the moment with him after all of the hours that we put in together.”
