Machej, Wrubleski homer in Dawgs' win over Bombers

Okotoks, Alta. – The Okotoks Dawgs won a tight one on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Brooks Bombers 12-9.

The Dawgs got out in front early, with the help of a three-run home run by Eric Machej (Edmonton, Alta.).

Ricky Sanchez was another significant contributor for the Dawgs, going 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run.

Aidan Dougherty also had a big day, collecting three hits and an RBI.

But it was Jordan Kievman who came through with a game-winning two-run single with the score tied in the top of the ninth inning. Jacob Wrubleski (Okotoks, Alta.) then added a two-run home run to make the score 12-9.

On the mound, the Dawgs pitching was led by starter Emmett Stacher who went 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs and striking out two.

Reid Madriaga then had a solid relief outing, striking out eight batters while allowing two runs in 3 2/3 innings.

With the win, the Dawgs improved to 33-12 on the season and strengthened their lead atop the WCBL’s Western Division.

Their next game is against the Lethbridge Bulls at Seaman Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
