Okotoks, Alta. –The matchup for the championship of the West Division of the Western Canadian Baseball League is now set.

The Okotoks Dawgs, gunning for their fourth consecutive WCBL championship, will battle the Sylvan Lake Gulls, after the Gulls turned back the Lethbridge Bulls 6-2 last night to advance to the final.

The Dawgs had previously dispatched the Brooks Bombers to earn their spot in the West final.

The Dawgs earned home field advantage for the West final after finishing first in the regular season and will host Game 1 on Sunday at 2:05 p.m.

Game 2 will shift to Sylvan Lake on Monday, while Game 3, if necessary, will return to Seaman Stadium in Okotoks on Tuesday.

Playoff leaders for the Dawgs include Nash Crowell (Yarmouth, N.S.), who in two playoff games is batting .667 with two home runs. Last year’s WCBL Championship hero, Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.), delivered a grand slam in Game 1 against Brooks while star shortstop, Ricardo Sanchez (Gonzaga), has been lighting it up with a .556 playoff average.

Barry Eiseman and Leo Cote (Boucherville, Que.) are batting at .444 and .429 clips respectively in the postseason, while Dawgs slugger Zane Skansi (Campbellsville University) was among league leaders in the regular season belting 11 home runs and delivering 46 RBIs.

On the mound, the Dawgs enjoyed strong starting pitching against Brooks led by Ryan Rembisz who struck out 12 batters in just seven innings. The Dawgs’ bullpen has also been solid in the playoffs led by Reid Madariaga, Chase Tucker (Mount Pearl, Nfld.), Brody Forno (Calgary, Alta.) and Ryan McFarland (Calgary, Alta.) who all posted 0.00 ERAs in the Brooks series.

The winner of the West will meet the Regina Red Sox or the winner of Saskatoon vs. Moose Jaw, who play a decisive Game 3 today.
