Former Abbotsford Cardinals’ Kansai Sugimoto (Toronto, Ont.) worked 3 1/3 innings as the Ontario Blue Jays suffered their first loss.

Kansai Sugimoto pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Ontario Blue Jays in a 5-3 loss to Scorpions Marucci at Terry Park.

It was the first loss for the Ontario Blue Jays and coach Mike Steed (Burlington, Ont.) at the 22nd annual Perfect Game World Wood Bat championship in Fort Myers, Fla.

Sugimoto, a student from Japan, who pitched for the Abbostford Cardinals in 2019, allowed three hits, while fanning five. He was clocked at 89 MPH. He threw 43 pitches (76% strikes).

RHP Quinn Tavares (Mississauga, Ont.) started and gave up two runs on three hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings. He threw 46 pitches (52% strikes) peaking at 86 MPH. MPH (76% strikes) with five strikeouts.

RHP Jacob Corby (Thornhill, Ont.) worked a scoreless inning with one strikeout. He was clocked at 88 MPH, throwing 11 pitches (72% strikes).

Mackenzie Mitchell (Toronto, Ont.) doubled for the Ontario Blue Jays. Mitchell is hitting .300 through four games. 1B Aiden McAskie (Toronto, Ont.) singled and knocked in a run, while Cole Patrick (Markham, Ont.) drove in a run as well.

Other hits went to 3B Nelson Mercado (Brampton, Ont.) and C Lucas Johnson (Burlington, Ont.).

The Great Lake Canadians duo of LHPs Caleb Clark and Adam Shoemaker put up three zeros as the Brewers Langley Blaze dropped a 3-0 decision to Louisiana Knights 2021.

Clark (Orillia, Ont.) took over in the fourth with his team down 3-0. Clark allowed four hits in two scoreless innings, while hitting 90 MPH in his 42-pitch outing (71% strikes).

Shoemaker (Cambridge, Ont.) had a scoreless inning, walking one and striking out a pair as he was clocked at 88 MPH. He threw 14 pitches (50% strikes).

2B Nathan Kirkpatrick (Surrey, BC) from the Langley Blaze singled.

Former Blue Jays and New York Mets LHP Al Leiter’s nephew RHP Cam Leiter started for the Brewers. He allowed three on three hits and two walks.
